Kathrin Longhurst creates photo realistic artwork that honours the beauty of creation. Working primarily in oil, pastels and watercolour Kathrin's work captures the beauty of the human experience and preserves the moment for all to see.
Kathrin’s style is in complete opposition to the proletarian, masculine environment that she found surrounding her growing up in communist East Berlin.
Her work is contemporary and she enjoys working in bright colours, sometimes using only primary or secondary colours and often layering the paint to bring out a three dimensional image. Kathrin’s style is also deeply influenced by her time spent in Belgium; the delicate and elaborate detail of “Jugendstil” or “Art Nouveau” enriches her paintings.
Kathrin studied Sales and Marketing and holds a Master Degree in Business Administration from Lund University in Sweden. Her extra curricular life included attending life drawing and painting classes. She received a steady extra income from commission works, such as pet and family portraits to support her studies. She gave up a career in Corporate Sales in 2003 to dedicate her life to art.
Kathrin is a founding member of an artist co-op called “Northern Expressions”. She has also founded “Causarts”, a volunteer organisation using art for humanitarian causes and giving back to the local community.
Kathrin’s pursuit in her art is to “create art that makes you feel good” and upon seeing her work you will see that she is achieving that quest.
